our mission

is to create living altars to the historical and ongoing wisdom of BIPOC folks by engaging healing, education, and the arts as tools for (re)membering and building more just and sustainable ways of being in community.

our vision

A world where the beauty and wisdom of BIPOC folks are given honor and authority.

Healing

At the crux of reimagining a new world is the work of repairing ourselves from the trauma of the oppression of the past several hundred years of deep disconnection and human exploitation. For us, it looks like a deep commitment to the nourishment of positive self-identity and community identity of Black people across the Diaspora.

  • Black Girls Restore(d) develops Black girls impacted by gender-based violence into dynamic organizers and healers who own their power and restore their communities. The training platform is uniquely designed for Black girls, femmes, queer, trans, and gender non conforming folks who have been impacted by gender-based violence, specifically patriarchal and sexual violence, and state violence defined as contact with institutional punitive practices e.g. in school discipline or juvenile detention. Our first cohort ran April of 2020 at the height of COVID and provided rich community in an uncertain time. I am excited to expand this as an offering for schools and organizations supporting Black girls, queer, trans, and gender non-conforming youth age 13-18, connect here!

It also looks like creating containers for trauma and systems for racial equity at scale for organizations who are truly desire to become accountable accomplices in the fight against Anti-Blackness. We specialize in:

  • Racial Equity & Restorative Justice is facilitated through our empathetic and critical approach to pushing organizations to deeply question their commitment to centering Black people in building an institutional culture of racial equity while creating a container to hold and process trauma at the personal and teams level, schedule here.

education

In addition to serving on the frontlines of the Movement for Black Lives, as a founding member and Chicago Chair for BYP100 (2013 - 2017), I have spent time in reflection unearthing visions and community strategies for reconnecting with our deepest desires of freedom. Writing has been my antidote to the pain caused by America (and the world’s) obsession with racial capitalism, punishment, and incarceration.

I am in the process of several writings to be released in 2021 across themes of mothering on the frontlines, prison abolition, and a forthcoming book and wellness curriculum centered on the experiences of Black, Latinx, Palestinian, and Indigenous mother-survivors based in Chicago. You can learn more about the book project here.

arts

We are immensely excited to create content that highlights the beauty, resilience, and divinity of all Black people. Our latest offering in process is a feature-length documentary, Black Girls Film, an intergenerational conversation about what it means to be a Black girl in America at the intersection of media, education, and wellness.
